MARTYR’S DAY 1947

Eigentlich ist Feiertag . Wäre Feiertag . Ein Feiertag des lachenden und weinenden Auges , erinnert der 19. Juli doch an jenen Morgen vor 61 Jahren , als ein Stosstrupp politischer Rivalen die führenden Proponenten der Unabhängigkeitsbewegung während einer Kabinettssitzung in Rangoon überraschte und kaltblütig niederschoss . Unter den Toten : General Aung San ( bekannt als Spiritus rector der Unabhängigkeit Burmas von der englischen Krone ebenso wie als leiblicher Vater der liberalen Oppositionsführerin Aung San Suu Kyi ) , der Beauftragte für Erziehung und Entwicklung , Abdul Razak sowie Aung Sans Bruder U Ba Win . Der Sohn des Letzteren , Dr Sein Win , leitet heute die “Exilregierung” ( NCGUB ) der National League for Democracy .

Als Rädelsführer dieses Meuchelmords an den “Märtyrern” der mit einem demokratischen Kabinett im Januar 1948 real erreichten politischen Unabhängigkeit wurde eine Reihe politischer Revisionisten um Ex- Premier U Saw festgenommen im ( heute noch und wieder notorischen ) Insein- Gefängnis gehängt . Festgenommen wurden allerdings auch zwei britische Offiziere , welche U Saws Bewegung mit Waffen und Munition beliefert hatten . DASS und WIE hartnäckig sich allerdings Verschwörungstheorien hinsichtlich britischer Interessen an der Beseitigung der Führungsspitze hielten und bis heute kolportiert werden , zeigt eine “dramatisierte” BBC- Dokumentation aus dem Jahr 1997 , welche in zwei Teilen via YouTube überliefert ist .

BURMA MARTYR S DAY 2008 07 19 Die üblicherweise am 19. Juli inszenierte staatliche Zeremonie wurde - zumindest für ausländische Diplomaten und Repräsentanten - vor vier Tagen ohne Angaben von Gründen per Aussendung gecancelt ( DVB ) .

In the past a ceremony marking the assassination was held at the Martyr’s Mausoleum in Yangon presided over by the Minister of Culture, but on Saturday for the first time the event will be only hosted by Yangon Mayor Brigadier General Aung Thein Linn, said an official at the Yangon City Authority, who asked to remain anonymous. Invitations to foreign diplomats to attend the ceremony have been cancelled, an Asian diplomat confirmed. No official reason for the downgrading of the ceremony has been announced. Nachdem bereits gestern vier Angehörige der oppositionellen National League for Democracy in Rangoon festgenommen worden waren ( “The government officials said they needed to ask them some questions.” ) , warnte die NLD ihre Mitglieder vor jedweder öffentlichen Manifestation .

Mit dieser Warnung wird die Opposition auf perfide Weise vom Militärregime als Sprachrohr “interner” Anweisungen missbraucht :

National League for Democracy members in Magwe and Mandalay divisions have been warned by authorities not to plan any events to commemorate Martyrs’ Day on 19 July. Ko Tint Lwin of Yaynanchaung NLD in Magwe said the authorities had told them the government would not mark the day. ‘We were warned by local authorities not to do any of the usual activities we usually do on Martyrs’ Day every year, such as providing meals to monks and merit making’,he said. ‘They said the government has no plans to celebrate the day and we would not be allowed to either.’

Andere regionale Gruppen mussten “agreements” unterzeichnen , entweder ganz auf die Feierlichkeiten oder auf die traditionellen Speise- Gaben an die Mönche zu verzichten . ( DVB , Mizzima ) Mizzima News gibt indes den Willen der NLD kund , “um keinen Preis” auf die Feierlichkeit verzichten zu wollen , auch wenn seitens der Regierung unmissverständliche Zeichen gesetzt wurden :

There is heightened security cordon around the NLD headquarters in Bahan, Shwedagon pagoda, Sule pagoda and Martyrs’ mausoleum. But the NLD is planning to observe Martyrs’ Day at its party headquarters tomorrow. However, there is apprehension that members may be obstructed, beaten up and arrested just as it happened during the 63rd birthday celebrations of Daw Aung Suu Kyi’s last month when the Union Solidarity and Development Association members intervened. ( … ) The government backed USDA and Swanahshin members stormed into the NLD office, beat up and arrested two NLD members and two visitors while the birthday celebrations of Daw Aung Suu Kyi was being held on June 19.

Allgemein geht die Rede von einem forcierten “Downgrading” des National- zum Regional- Feiertag ( Mizzima , Worldwide Public Holidays News , asia observer , Asia-Pacific News ) , trotzdem erinnern Blogs wie Burma Sitmone speziell an den Helden des Tages , General Aung San of Burma bzw. kontrastieren das “Martyrium” des Freiheitshelden am 19. 7. 1947 mit dem 7. 7. 1962 , als mit der Ermordung von 15 demonstrierenden Studenten in Rangoon durch das Schergen des Militär- Putschisten General Ne Win das knapp 14 Jahre währende demokratische Zwischenspiel in Burmas Geschichte ein blutiges Ende fand ( Burmese Bloggers w/o Borders ) . Die nächste schlimme Ziffer rückt ja mit dem 8. 8. 2008 ( Eröffnung der Olympischen Spiele in Perking - 20 Jahre Studentenunruhen in Burma ) heran .

2007 : REVOLUTION DER GREENBACKS ?

BURMA MARTYR S DAY 2008 07 19 Kein Wunder , wenn der “Guardian” von neuen Aufständen raunt und lokale Aktivisten zitiert , welche vom amerikanischem Backing der Septemberunruhen 2007 aus dem Nähkästchen plaudern :

… he spoke openly of how covert western support, primarily from the US State Department-funded National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and its subsidiary, the International Republican Institute (IRI) had been key to the success of the uprising. “The August/September protests were a real test of the training, and we were able to see how effective it has been,” he said.

Soe Aung described mobilisation through Burma’s monasteries and religious institutions. “The US is certainly doing the most for the opposition. There has been real success in training and forming an underground movement through religious organisations and monastic organisations. These provide the best cover inside Burma. The monks can spread their training very effectively,” he said.

According to Brian Joseph, who is in charge of the group’s Burma project, the NED gave $3m to Burma in 2007. “We would send more, but there is a limit to what you can do in Burma,” he said. Opposition activists inside and outside Burma said improvements in political awareness and spread of information were thanks in large part to NED-funded projects, but also to the introduction of the internet to Burma in 2003.

In one of the largest of Mandalay’s 100 Buddhist monasteries, the monks say they are preparing for a new uprising. “There is so much anger here. We are preparing, we hope, for an uprising in the coming September. We are ready,” said a senior instructor. He described how Americans and Europeans have been training groups of core monk activists in basic civil disobedience tactics, as well as advising them in crafting an overall strategy.

National Endowment for Democracy ( NED ) , International Republican Institute ( IRI ) - diese Adressen wird man sich zweifellos merken .

Seit Oktober 2007 hat sich das internationale und selbstorganisierende Netzwerk BLOG 4 BURMA allmählich konsolidiert . Engagierte Blogger aus Deutschland , Frankreich , Spanien , der Schweiz und Österreich sind konsequent beim Thema geblieben , Freunde kamen hinzu , kurzfristige Trittbrettfahrer sind abgesprungen . Der gemeinsame RSS- Feed liefert täglich neue Aspekte und Perspektiven :

Mit der Release von RAMBO IV auf DVD rückt für Birma News United ereut das Schicksal der Karen- Volksgruppe in den Fokus der Betrachtung , Kathy liefert dazu das Video “A Secret Genocide” und fragt rhetorisch : “A quand un mandat d’arrêt international contre Than Shwe et ses complices ?” - Via Korruption , so Jonas M. Lanter , seien “Burmas Generäle steinreich” und waren skrupellos genug , das Chaos während des Zyklons Nargis ( > Erinnerung an dessen exquisite Chronik ! ) dafür zu nutzen , Gefangene des Insein- Gefängnisses hinzurichten .

Die Amplituden des Diskurses zwischen “Naturnaher Idylle” und “Terror-Regime” hat adaequat beobachtet . Birmania libre hatte Aung San Suu Kyi zum Geburtstag gratuliert - ob man der weiterhin unter Hausarrest stehenden Oppositionsführerin unter obgenannten Umständen freilich fröhlich “Feliz cumpleaños” wünschen kann , bleibt fraglich . Und noch einmal Kathy mit einer Erinnerung an das Datum des 7. 7. 1962 im Sinne eines “journée de deuil” . All dies sollte , so News Headquarter , nicht das “Verfassungs- Referendum im DDR-Style” genauso wenig vergessen lassen wie die Tatsache , dass die Junta neuerdings Burma die Nutzung von Proxy- Servern unterbindet ( khaipi ) .
