Wo bleibt das Weltkulturerbe der Verantwortung ? - Dass Beides - COMMITMENT TO HUMAN RIGHTS sowie COMMITMENT TO ECOLOGY - meist in Form von FORDERUNGEN auftritt und allseitigen Bekenntniszwang nach sich zieht , steht nur auf der verso- Seite des selben Blattes .
Also werden wir hier nicht BÖSE CHINESEN , CO2- AMIS oder abgetakelte Meerbusen verhandeln . Mitnichten auch die Statistiken herausrücken , wie oft wir die WC- Spülung betätigen , wie uns das diffuse Licht der Energiesparlampen jeden klaren Blick benimmt und was man unternehmen muss , um in einem 1900er Zinshaus zu Wien Kein Kaltes Herz zu kriegen . Ecological Debt Day means the day when human kind begins to live beyond its ecological means. So, as of October 6, 2007, humanity has consumed the total amount of new resources that our planet can produce this year.
Currently, we are using 30% more in one year than the nature can regenerate in that same year. Thus from this Saturday, we have moved into the red zone as per the New Economics Foundation (NEF) think-tank. NEF says that this date is steadily moving backwards every year .
In 2007, in just 279 days, humanity demanded the biosphere’s entire capacity for the year. The 279th day of the year was October 6.
The report has caused a lot of concern in international community regarding the environment. Some interesting facts it showed such as if every nation in the world had the same consumption rates as United States it would take 5.3 planet earths to support us. Similarly, this figure was 3.1 for France and Britain, 3.0 for Spain, 2.5 for Germany and 2.4 for Japan.

Mr Gore has his detractors. His FILM IS PROPAGANDA RATHER THAN DOCUMENARY. Da gefällt uns spitz formulierte INCONVENIANT QUESTION des NYT- Kolumnisten John Tierney schon besser : Should Al Gore Fly to Oslo For His Nobel Prize ?
Should he skip the trip to Oslo, Norway, on a fuel-burning jet and instead accept the award by teleconference?
I realize two plane flights would make little difference to Mr. Gore’s carbon footprint (certainly by comparison with the much-publicized utility bills for his home). But as he pointed out in AN INCONVENIANT TRUTH :
Flying is another form of transportation that produces large amounts of carbon dioxide. Reducing air travel even by one or two flights per year can significantly reduce emissions. . . . If your airplane travel is for business, consider whether you can telecommute instead. ( Al Gore )
Should Mr. Gore follow his own advice here? You could argue that the publicity generated by his presence in Oslo would do more to combat global warming than the reduced emissions from trip. But you could also argue that the symbolism of staying home would send an even more powerful message about the need for everyone to conserve energy. He could generate plenty of publicity by delivering the Nobel lecture through a video link and letting the prize be sent to him on an energy-efficient ship.

Our world model was built specifically to investigate five major trends of global concern - accelerating industrialization, rapid population growth, widespread malnutrition, depletion of nonrenewable resources, and a deteriorating environment. The model we have constructed is, like every model, imperfect, oversimplified, and unfinished. ( … )
Our conclusions are :
1. If the present growth trends in world population, industrialization, pollution, food production, and resource depletion continue unchanged, the limits to growth on this planet will be reached sometime within the next one hundred years. The most probable result will be a rather sudden and uncontrollable decline in both population and industrial capacity.
2. It is possible to alter these growth trends and to establish a condition of ecological and economic stability that is sustainable far into the future. The state of global equilibrium could be designed so that the basic material needs of each person on earth are satisfied and each person has an equal opportunity to realize his individual human potential.
If the world’s people decide to strive for this second outcome rather than the first, the sooner they begin working to attain it, the greater will be their chances of success. All five elements basic to the study reported here–population, food production, and consumption of nonrenewable natural resources–are increasing. The amount of their increase each year follows a pattern
that mathematicians call exponential growth. A quantity exhibits exponential growth when it increases by a constant percentage of the whole in a constant time period. Such exponential growth is a common process in biological, financial, and many other systems of the world.
Exponential growth is a dynamic phenomenon, which means that it involves elements that change over time. (…) When many different quantities are growing simultaneously in a system, however, and when all the quantities are interrelated in a complicated way, analysis of the causes of growth and of the future behavior of the system becomes very difficult indeed.

We end on a note of urgency. We have repeatedly emphasized the importance of the natural delays in the population-capital system of the world. These delays mean, for example, that if Mexico’s birth rate gradually declined from its present value to an exact replacement value by the year 2000, the country’s population would continue to grow until the year 2060. During that time the population would grow from 50 million to 130 million. We cannot say with certainty how much longer mankind can postpone initiating deliberate control of its growth before it will have lost the chance for control. We suspect on the basis of present knowledge of the physical constraints of the planet that the growth phase cannot continue for another one hundred years. Again, because of the delays in the system, if the global society waits until those constraints are unmistakably apparent, it will have waited too long.
If there is cause for deep concern, there is also cause for hope. Deliberately limiting growth would be difficult, but not impossible. The way to proceed is clear, and the necessary steps, although they are new ones for human society, are well within human capabilities. Man possesses, for a small moment in his history, the most powerful combination of knowledge, tools, and resources the world has ever known. He has all that is physically necessary to create a totally new form of human society–one that would be built to last for generations. The two missing ingredients are a realistic, long-term goal that can guide mankind to the equilibrium society and the human will to achieve that goal. Without such a goal and a commitment to it, short-term concerns will generate the exponential growth that drives the world system toward the limits of the earth and ultimate collapse. Ach ja , und da wäre schliesslich noch so ein DEBT DAY , allerdings weniger der ökologisch- globalen Sorte , sondern die GENDER- ÖKONOMIE betreffend : Da gab es nämlich den sogenannten EQUAL PAY DAY am 27. September 2007 , welcher soviel besagt wie :
An diesem Tag haben Männer bereits jenes Einkommen erreicht, das Frauen erst bis zum Ende des Jahres erzielen werden. Oder anders ausgedrückt: Ab diesem Tag arbeiten Frauen statistisch gesehen gratis. ( Die Standard , 11. 10. )
Interessanter Weise war dieser EQUAL PAY DAY 2007 in den USA bereits am 24. April erreicht und National Committee on Pay Equity terminiert den nächsten Termin dieser Art bereits auf den 22. April 2008 . Bei den entsprechenden Berechnungen hilft da Tool Kit der Organisation WAGE ( women are getting even ) . Grundlage ist der folgende Befund :
